Week 6- Buffalo St. Francis

The 2009 Cardinal Mooney Cardinals are off to a very impressive 5 & 0 start. Within those 5 wins, are victories over 2 long-time division 1 rivals (Boardman & Harding) and 3 teams that were unbeaten and ranked at or near the top of their respective divisions when Mooney played them (Columbus DeSales - D3, Elyria Catholic - D4 and Mentor Lake Catholic - D2). That effort has placed the Cards at the very top of Division 3 and also sporting a big “bulls-eye” squarely on their backs!

This is the point where great teams separate themselves from good teams. This is the point where great teams continue to practice hard and stay focused and good teams seem to read their press clippings and falter here or there. This is the point where captains and leaders of a great team refuse to allow their team to stray from the course. This is the point were we can begin to see whether the 2009 Mooney Cardinals are a great team or just another very good team in Cardinal Mooney football history!

THAT is the challenge before these young men right now. Do they stay focused on the prize or do they rest on their laurels? It’s easy to lay back and think this game or that game is easy and look ahead to someone else. What’s not easy is to continue to practice hard and workout strong and keep that “edge”. Football is a brutal sport, for tough, hard-nosed men.

A challenge to you men: keep the “edge”, stay focused, become great!

Go Cards! 1 play at a time, 1 game at a time, ‘til there’s no time left!

Best of luck to Coach Fecko, the coaching staff and the 2009 Cardinal Mooney Cardinals!

Always,
The Rock
