A first ever meeting between two storied Parochial powerhouses will take place this Friday evening at YSU’s Stambaugh Stadium. The Columbus St. Francis DeSales Stallions, bring their #1 D3 ranking to Youngstown to take on the Cardinals. Below are some interesting facts about the Stallions and about our Cardinals versus teams from the State’s Capital City:

The DeSales football team has been state runner-up five times, in 1984, 1990, 1996, 2001 and 2005, and has won the Division III state championship three times, in 1985, 1997 and 1998. They dropped down from DII to DIII this season.

The Cardinals have faced opponents from Columbus 7 times in the past and currently hold a 6 & 1 record against those foes. Mooney holds a 2-0 edge over Columbus Bishop Ready and a 4-1 lead over DeSales’ arch-rival….the Columbus Bishop Watterson Eagles (who we face again in this season, week 10). Our boys will need to bring their “A” game to pull out a victory over the powerful Stallions!

NOW….just a note about last week’s game against our old friends from Boardman! Thanks to everyone involved in getting that game played again! The atmosphere in Spartan Stadium was electric. It wasn’t pretty, but any win over the Spartans….is a great one!!!

Best of luck to Coach Fecko, the coaching staff and the 2009 Cardinal Mooney Cardinals!

Always,
The Rock
